Here at Mr Hugh’s HQ we were ecstatic to see the best valued Extra Virgin, Cold-Pressed Rapeseed Oil appear on national television.
‘The Truth About Healthy Eating’ aired on BBC One on August 21st and presenter Fiona Phillips compared Mr Hugh’s to a coconut oil, looking specifically at the health benefits and cost difference.
Mr Hugh’s contains 87% less saturated fat than coconut oil and boasts more nutritional value as our rapeseed oil is high in Vitamin E as well as Omega’s 3 & 6.
We sustain this high nutritional content from the seed through Cold Pressing our oil, whereas refined rapeseed oil (more commonly called Vegetable Oil) undergoes high heat pressing which strips the oil of all its nutritional goodness. The heat also leaves the oil with a bitter taste and odd colour, which is why the refined oil is bleached and treated.
It’s easy to tell the difference between cold-pressed and refined oil by looking at the colour. Cold-pressed rapeseed oil will be a rich, golden yellow due to the high level of vitamin E, whereas refined will be much lighter (almost clear)!
Mr Hugh’s is perfectly versatile for all uses in the kitchen as it’s a great salad dressing and can also be heated to high temperatures. As rapeseed oil has a high smoke point, it won’t burn away in the pan or break down to a trans-fat when doing steaks or stir-frys. This high smoke point also enables rapeseed oil to cook the best roast potatoes you’ve ever eaten!
